NATURAL FIBERS

Synthetics are a fact of daily life. Clothes made exclusively from natural fibers are prohibitively expensive to the average (and most above average) consumers… But modern day fashionistas and the well-to-do alike know that few things are as pleasing to the skin as high-spun cotton or wool.

One unexpected recipient of costly, natural fiber clothing: the planetside science tech.

Synthetics are superior at providing warmth in cool climates, and coolness in warm climates. They can be made into immensely tough, but flexible sheets and even create pressure shunts to prevent bleed-out. They are at the heart of all materials science as we understand it.

Despite being constructed to resist wear and tear, fiber fatigue is simply unavoidable. Once the synthetic fiber is torn, it is almost impossible to mend without filaments and equipment designed to the task. This specificity requires additional hardware, and with that hardware comes additional weight. Any hand sewing attempts (poking more holes into otherwise sound material) will create further damage rather than fix it.

Clothing made from natural fibers can be hemmed with any analog of the thread and needle. Such patchwork repairs may lack aesthetic value, but the functionality is undeniable.
